http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13048869 Justin Major is a regular kid with an extraordinary willingness to learn about everyone around him, including the homeless. "I was in the 1st grade and I saw a homeless person on the strip and I told my teacher that I wanted to start a facility when I got older and do anything I could. Now the time has come that I'm old enough. So Justin decided to start working on a documentary, bringing the homeless population in Las Vegas out of the shadows and into the light. Justin's cameras have been rolling on the secrets of life on the streets. "The first night I was out I went to Foremaster street, that's probably the worst I've seen. I actually gagged several times from the smell over fecal matter", says Major. Justin says it's a way to shed light on a serious problem in the Las Vegas valley and reach out to those he feels need it most. "Most people think homeless are out here because of gambling and drugs, that's true for some but others are unfortunate with their luck. Some are here from foreclosure or they've been kicked out of where they were." Justin plans to finish the documentary next summer and eventually play it in parks where people who have homes can see how the other half live. "The rich the poor, we're all in this thing called life",says Justin.

I apologize..

I apologize for not updating this in a long time. The project is somewhat on hold for the moment because of school work and such. I am still updating the facebook group though. You may see it by going to the link below. We will hopefully be able to film a little more soon, this is something that needs to be done.

Interviews and more interviews.

My interview with Channel 13 ABC-KTNV went great :D! I'm trying to figure out who nominated me though.. hmm..

Anyways.. I've currently got 2 hours of film footage.. 30 minutes is probably needed/usable from it. We have about 4 interviews from people and we will hopefully have tons more. Soon I will start putting small film clips on youtube so everyone can see the progress.

More and more hope.

On Wednesday; after I relax tomorrow some, I'm going to be on channel 13. This may or may not be while I am at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission filming a feeding session.

Thank you so much to Pastor Jeff (Rescue Mission Pastor), John Fogel (Director of the mission) and the others there.

We have met and interviewed many good people so far. There is several more to come.

A couple notes.

I was on the radio yesterday for the project with near a thousand listeners throughout the 30 minute interview!

This morning I was contacted by 13 ABC-KTNV News in Las Vegas who would like to interview and support the video.

With the donations slowly coming in, and the AMAZING support I'm getting for this project, in the coming months, I would like to open and start The No Lights Foundation. It will generate money and hopefully help many homeless get off the street.

Our next day of filming is this Sunday at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission!

Thank you all for your support,

Justin Major

We arrived back earlier than planned, but the experience was amazing; all except the foot and leg pain. Around 10 miles with 30-40 pounds of gear total and a lot of water/ice tea. The experience was amazing though, now I can make a trailer for the movie.

I could never survive out there. The sleeping on the ground part wasn't bad at all. It was the constant smell of human waste, and how dirty you would be afterwards. I'm slightly germaphobic, not much I guess, but enough to say though I survived a day worth of the lifestyle, I've got a lot of learning to do.

Otherwise, I met a lot of amazing people, many who will be supporting my project, and others who would like to sing and play music for the movie.

First Day.

Today is day one of filming, and after much sleep deprivation, I can happily say I'm still prepared. The cause is what keeps me awake.

My grandmother goes to a local pain clinic here in Las Vegas and a few weeks back she met a woman and her boyfriend. They both came out of being homeless just a few months ago and now the woman is in a wheelchair. She has agreed through special permission to be in the documentary, this is going to be absolutely amazing. A true story of getting out of poverty could show the struggle for others and ways the government can step up the game.

Filming for my documentary, "Where There Are No Lights" begins this Saturday and goes around the clock until late Sunday evening. This is only the first day of many we are filming and I could use all the support I can get. Join my Facebook group "Where There Are No Lights." If you can donate please do, any amount helps with feeding and supplies.

In other news, I received in the mail my amazon order, two new camera batteries, and two new DV tapes. This will go a long way for filming! Thanks mom!
